The parliamentary committee for new rules on working hours and holidays (KNAS) is expected to submit its recommendations shortly. As long as there is no Government proposal on this subject, the NIER's forecast will be based on current provisions.
The committee requested the NIER to study the macroeconomic consequences of a legislated reduction in working hours; the findings of this study were published in a report entitled Effects of a General Reduction in Working Hours on the National Economy.
It is not certain that a legislated reduction in working hours would be fully translated into fewer hours worked, since overtime could increase, for example. In ...
