U.K. College: Educating `Fit And Proper' Planners
Personal financial planning is a new profession in the United Kingdom, and planners will have to win the public's trust by demonstrating that they know what they are doing. That, essentially, is what prompted the establishment of the College for Financial Planning (CFP) in Hertfordshire, according to Dr. Edwin Kerr, head of the college.
The college was formed in 1986 following passage of the Financial Services Act, which governs financial planning in the U.K. The act, which went into effect in 1988, does not require formal education in financial planning, but it does require that planners be 'fit and ...
