Chief of the World Trade Organization, Mike Moore, warned Thursday that failure by Congress to grant President Bush trade promotion authority will hamper the latest round of global trade liberalization talks.
Under trade promotion authority, formerly called fast-track authority, Congress will grant the president full authority to negotiate international trade agreements, which it could then vote to accept or reject.
"If it were not to happen (trade promotion authority) this would be enormously disappointing in terms of the round," Moore said in a news conference. The talks, launched in November in Doha, Qatar, face a Jan. 1, ...
