Gov. Scott McCallum has an opportunity to improve government in Dane County this month by doing absolutely nothing. He merely has to let two state budget provisions stand -- allowing the Dane County Regional Planning Commission to live and the town of Madison to die.
Local "conservatives" want vetoes of the provisions. Conserve an extra layer of government in south Madison that tends to hold poverty in one spot, and conserve fragmented, piecemeal approaches to solving regional problems -- that seems to be the argument.
The RPC is a no-brainer. We need more regional planning in Dane County, not less. Problems created by sprawling growth should ...
