Airline in Tijuana wins Mexican OK for Tokyo service

A Mexican conglomerate is forming a Tijuana-based airline that plans to start non-stop service between that city and Tokyo.

Pacific International Airways, which has been in the works about six months, already received approval for the route from the Mexican government, said Bruce Leadbetter, the American consultant for Dese Group of Mexico City, the force behind the new airline.

Plans are now "in front of the Japanese Ministry of Transportation to get slots and gates at Narita" airport in Tokyo, Leadbetter said.
