NEW YORK-Although hand-tufted rugs sell at a higher volume, specialty store owners remain committed to stocking the more expensive, classic hand-knotted rugs.

While one would think that the economy -- which has been brutal on this category -- would prompt retailers to beef up their selection of cheaper hand-tufted rugs at the expense of hand-knotted, that appears not to have been the case. Specialty store retailers say hand-knotted rugs are their niche and they're staying the course.
