As was the late Sen. Hubert Humphrey before him, John Brandl is a professor-politician. He is also - for one more day - dean of the Hubert Humphrey Institute for Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota.
Having reached age almost-65, Brandl is vacating the front office and returning to the ranks of the professoriate. His successor, J. Brian Atwood, former director of the U.S. Agency for International Development, will move into the dean's office on Oct. 1. In the interim, associate dean Sandra Archibald will mind the store.
Brandl's passage bears noting - even if, as he insists, it is not a retirement. He'll be teaching, writing, campaigning - ...
