On a leafy road in Essex is a large town house. It's a short taxi ride from Stansted airport, where planes arrive from Dublin throughout the day. And it's the closest place to the airport if you're an Irish woman seeking an abortion.
Inside the waiting room at the Marie Stopes clinic, women from their teens to their forties sit anxiously. Staff are friendly and kind, but the tension is palpable. A few women are red-eyed or crying but most stare blankly at the carpet and wait for their name to be called by the nurse.
