One day last December, Florida Attorney Gen. Bob Butterworth stepped from the elevator at 501 N. Grandview Ave. in Daytona Beach and into the dark ground floor hallway, knowing that what he had done, many more luminous Democrats had done before. Here also have stood, many times, Walter Mondale, Gary Hart, Al Gore, Joe Biden, as well as virtually every Florida Democrat in recent years who, like Butterworth, dreamed of becoming governor.
