ONE imagines, one hopes, the irony will be lost on Jade Goody. The finale of the third series of Channel Four's 'reality' show, Big Brother, will coincide with the 140th anniversary of the birth of John Merrick.
Merrick, better known as the Elephant Man due to his grotesque deformities, was born into a poor, urban, working-class family, and lost one of his parents at an early age.
