ROANOKE ISLAND -- The first vehicle to drive the Outer Banks' new bridge over Croatan Sound will be Andy Griffith's vintage car, driven by the actor himself.
Griffith will be behind the wheel of his 1935 Packard convertible sedan, accompanied by his wife, Cindy, Gov. Mike Easley and state Sen. Marc Basnight, said Norma Mills, the senate president's chief legal counsel.
Vehicles driven by representatives of Dare's municipalities and surrounding counties will follow behind Griffith, Mills said.
Griffith, television's beloved Sheriff Andy Taylor in fictional Mayberry, lives on Roanoke Island.
