Jul. 23--The Food and Drug Administration has approved Amgen's newest anemia drug for chemotherapy patients, a move that clears the way into a multibillion-dollar market dominated by Johnson & Johnson.

Amgen's drug, Aranesp, is a longer-lasting version of a pair of blockbusters -- Amgen's Epogen and Johnson & Johnson's Procrit -- which had combined worldwide sales of more than $5 billion last year.
