Europe has been hit with a host of food problems in recent years from Salmonella to Campylobacter to mad cow disease. Another item on this list is dioxin, a category of toxic compounds in the polychlorinated dibenzopdioxin (PCDD) family. Dioxins are byproducts of various combustion practices and chemical processes such as waste incineration, chlorine bleaching and pesticide production. They cause a range of health problems in both animals and humans including infertility, diabetes and cancer.
