Ohio jobless rate climbing due to auto woes
WASHINGTON -- Unemployment statistics due out Friday are expected to show Ohio's jobless rate surging because of a national slowdown in the auto industry.
The state's rising unemployment claims are part of a continued national decline in manufacturing jobs that began last March.
In Ohio, the number of initial jobless claims filed for the first three weeks of January was 2 1/2 times larger than the number filed for all of October. An initial claim is filed when a person goes to the unemployment office for the first time.
