In AD95, just before the Queen Mother was born, the Roman emperor Domitian banished John the Evangelist to the lonely island of Patmos.
"Don't worry,'' said John's friends as he set sail armed with a pen, a notebook and his pet frog Fred, ''it's not the end of the world.''
"Huh,'' said John, ''that's what you think.''
Arriving on Patmos, the bearded one climbed a mountain, found a cave and, as an act of revenge, penned a scenario in which the Romans, and all the other non-believers for that matter, got their comeuppance on the Day of Judgement.
