GMA has a new slogan. Strong Republic. Expect this to be in many presidential speeches, government policies and programs and congressional debates. Will this new slogan catch fire?
Strong Republic. Slogans are among the most ingenious and powerful tools of politicians. It has a potential capacity to unite, cajole, persuade, ignite; it is probably the best people mover this side of typhoons, earthquakes, court orders, and guns. A slogan works when properly contrived. It is easy to remember and hard to forget. It plants itself in our consciousness by rhythm, rhyme, and imagery. It can impel people to coalesce, divide, fight, sacrifice, vote, buy, and even kill.
