A new solid waste management company is forming as a result of Waste Systems International Inc.'s emergence from bankruptcy court protection.

North East Waste Services Inc., a private firm, has acquired the operating subsidiaries of Waste Systems International, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in January 2001. Waste Systems International emerged from Chapter 11 on June 28.

North East Waste Services - or NEWS - is owned by funds managed by DDJ Capital Management LLC of Wellesley, Mass.
