There's nothing like a proposed waste transfer station to feed a long-running municipal feud.
In many ways, Carol Stream and Glendale Heights are sister cities. Both towns incorporated in 1959 and have grown up together along the common border of Schmale Road.
But as Glendale Heights built single-family homes east of the road, Carol Stream continued to fill up the industrial park just west of Schmale near Fullerton Avenue.
That has proven a blueprint for conflict. Truck traffic, Glendale Height officials say, has steadily increased and reduced the quality of life for nearby homeowners. ...
