Mexican expatriates residing in the US are expected to play a significant role in the campaigns leading to upcoming elections in both Mexico and the US. However, many of these expatriates do not have the right to vote in either country.
The issue of granting voting rights to expatriates has heated up in Mexico in recent days, with the former governing Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI) pledging to work harder on behalf of Mexican residents in the US, perhaps stealing a campaign issue from President Vicente Fox.
