Programmers Have Eyes on Sky for DBS Options
Cable programmers are already looking to the future to see what kinds of options direct broadcast satellites can offer their segment of the industry.
Since the reach of DBS will be modest at first, programmers speculate that the system - with its potential to serve up a large channel capacity through video compression - will likely be more attractive to startup services than to established programming networks.
But even established network programmers say they are eagerly monitoring the alternative delivery system's progress and that they are very willing to use it as a supplemental route into the home. ...
