Although a higher proportion of black women than white women of all ages report having been screened for cervical cancer (CDC, unpublished data), cervical cancer mortality rates for black women are twice those for white women (rate ratio 2.6 in 1987). This report summarizes differences in cervical cancer deaths for black women and white women [is greater than or equal to] 15 years of age for 1980-1987.
Cervical cancer (International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification, rubric 180) deaths were identified by using total mentions from the multiple cause-of-death file (*) compiled by CDC's National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS). ...
