Jul. 26--The shiraz from Manteca has done it again.
Delicato Family Vineyards' 2001 Shiraz was named Best of California this week in the syrah category of the California State Fair Wine Competition.
Syrah and shiraz are different names for the same grape.
The 2000 Delicato Shiraz won the same award last year. The back-to-back wins for consecutive vintages is very unusual, said Pooch Pucilowski, the chief judge of the state fair competition.
