Many a wooden commercial fishing boat has been hauled on the rails at Montgomery and Wilson Railway in Deltaville, Va. But the last boat has been hauled from the yard, as its owner, 87-year-old Willis Wilson, shut down the business in mid-May.
Over the years, the railway--wedged between hundreds of yachts--was one of the few in the area that catered to commercial watermen. Any job too large for a waterman to do on his own, Wilson was there to do it. And he did the job in a timely fashion, understanding the watermen's need to get his boat repaired and back overboard as soon as possible.
