Jul. 27--The state's sales tax holiday is definitely defunct, but some shoppers may wonder when they see ads like the one by Burdine's that says it's "bringing back the 7 percent `tax' discount."
No, Burdine's isn't offering to pay state and local sales taxes for you. Neither is Macy's which, like Burdine's, is offering an extra 7 percent off through Aug. 4 on purchases of clothes, shoes and purses valued at under $50.
The Legislature nixed the holiday for this year, which would have run for nine days beginning today. And state law forbids retailers to claim ...
