Generation II Locomotive's Cat-powered rebuilds don't come cheap. They do come with the promise of big fuel savings, lower maintenance costs, and greater environmental acceptability.
There's no shortage of locomotive rebuilders/remanufacturers. The list includes Morrison-Knudsen, Precision National, Wilson Railway, VMV Enterprises, Republic Locomotive, Chrome Locomotive, Livingston Rebuild Center, Peaker, the CN Montreal Shops, and most recently Cleburne Railway Shops - plus, of course, General Motors and General Electric. Is there room for another company to carve out a niche?
