DROs' 16 Productivity Enhancements
Digital readouts, those wonderful electronic displays that replace the scales and verniers on machine handwheels, have come a long way. Today's DROs virtually duplicate modern CNRs, except for directing the servos that move the table, saddle, and spindle. The operator still must perform this task when using readouts. For many shops, this situation is appropriate. DROs are relatively inexpensive, they can be retrofitted to nearly any existing machine with relative ease, they are a logical step to full CNC, and they can easily introduce electronic usage to the shop floor without upsetting the existing routine.
