Coupled with the associations Elsa Morante drew between literary creation and autobiography, her by now familiar words, "Io sono tutta nei miei libri," have understandably invited more than a few scholars to read her fictional works in terms of autobiographism. But is the relationship between Morante's life and literary texts really so transparent?
