In a potentially significant victory for General Motors, federal judges in Florida and Texas ruled last week that actions brought by Daewoo dealers against the automaker belong in U.S. Bankruptcy Court, not the states.

The decision puts the case before Judge Kathleen March in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California in Los Angeles. A hearing date had not been set as of Friday, July 26.

Barring a successful appeal by the dealers, last week's decision means the automaker will not have to argue its case in the more politically charged atmosphere of a state court or regulatory hearing.
