Jul. 30--What if a bear market ended and nobody knew it? It has happened before.
As the markets have surged in recent days, investors may be wondering whether the end of the bear market is near. But for all they know, it is already gone.
History -- and the media -- are full of missed calls on the end of the bear market.
Take this account from nearly a decade ago: "It's too late to panic now. But fasten your seat belt and grab the Pepto Bismol, because Wall Street may be in for a bumpy ride, with more breathtaking plunges around the corner."
