There seems to be two kinds of futures brokerage firms these days: the old-line firms who have large staffs of telephone-based brokers and the new breed of futures brokers, the online trading companies. The old-line firms frequently charge high rates to support their large staffs and to offset the costs of developing expensive proprietary online trading systems. Conversely, the online upstarts typically private label a third-party trading platform and maintain minimal staff. With their low overhead costs, they can afford to offer rock-bottom rates but are lean in the personal service department. You'd think there would be a better way - and, frankly, we agree.
