Jul. 31--All the elements that promote good growing conditions fell into place this summer to yield one of the best and earliest chile crops producers have seen in recent years.
A mild spring and progressively warmer weather encouraged a strong and vigorous plant emergence. No rain storms hit the maturing chile fields, which helped prevent a build-up of excessive moisture that supports soil-borne diseases, according to Bob Bevacqua, vegetable specialist, New Mexico State University Cooperative Extension Service.
