Auto Insurance Data Bank Proposed For New York State

A plan to establish a state-run computerized data bank that would provide New York consumers with access to auto insurer price and service information has been introduced by New York Attorney General Robert Abrams.

At a public hearing in Mineola, N.Y., Mr. Abrams presented the program along with Wendy Cooper, first deputy superintendent of the state's insurance department.

"There are wide ranges in both price and quality of service in auto insurance policies," said Mr. Abrams.
