2002 AUG 8 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Xenon Genetics, Inc., announced that its research team, together with collaborators, have demonstrated that the gene (ABCA1) responsible for regulating levels of HDL cholesterol plays an important role in protecting against cardiovascular disease.

Xenon's research showed that mice over-expressing human ABCA1 had a marked reduction in atherosclerosis compared with mice where human ABCA1 was not over-expressed. These findings appeared in The Journal of Clinical Investigation.
