DAVID McLETCHIE was telling a story this week about his summer holiday. As he was leaving the Scottish parliament three weeks ago, the Tory leader bumped into Jack McConnell. 'Off on holiday?' he asked his political rival.
The First Minister nodded. He was heading to Brodick on the Isle of Arran, his childhood home, the following week. 'What about you?' McConnell asked.
McLetchie put his head in his hands.
'Arran,' he replied. 'Next week. In Brodick.' So it was that the 42-year-old Labour First Minister of Scotland and 49-year-old leader of the Scottish Tories spent their summer getaway last week a matter of yards ...
