Port officials try to nab Chilean fruit importing away from Los Angeles

The San Diego Unified Port District thinks the time may soon be ripe for the appearance of Chilean fruit in local waters, but it won't happen without a fight from Los Angeles.

William Stonehouse, the port's trade director, and Port Commissioner Robert Penner recently returned from a two-week trade mission to Chile and Argentina, where the pair met with growers and shippers who hope to export their fruit through San Diego.
