MONTEREY, Calif. _ First, 350 of the little critters were turned in to the SPCA of Monterey County. Then another 187 were confiscated by animal control in Hollister.
Now, the region's guinea pig rescuers have a full-scale crisis on their hands.
"There's just no way to find good homes for 600 to 700 guinea pigs in the Bay Area," said Teresa Murphy, founder of Cavy Spirit in San Mateo, a private, not-for-profit rescue group. "Two hundred are adoptable right now."
No one is quite sure why, but there are more homeless guinea pigs in the Bay Area and Central Coast than ever before _ so many that volunteers even delivered 38 of the furry rodents to ...
