My daughter, Laura MacDonald, was one of 37 demonstrators who trespassed at Fort Benning in Columbus, Ga., to protest the activities, past and present, of the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation, formerly the School of the Americas. She is currently serving a three-month sentence for her "civil disobedience."
Laura's mother, Tina MacDonald, has already written forcefully about that event. I respectfully take issue with the view recently expressed by letter-writer David Martin.
Martin points out that Rae Kramer, one of Laura's co-defendants, "is not going to jail for protesting, but for trespassing." ...
