NEW GLARUS -- When Ernest Jaggi, 71, yodels, he bring an authentic style nurtured while working as a teen with herdsmen in Swiss mountains. It's akin to a blues guitarist spending his formative years at the feet of legends in Chicago clubs or Mississippi roadhouses.
On Sunday afternoon, Jaggi, a New Glarus resident since 1955, brought that authenticity and talent to the community's Volksfest, celebrating Switzerland's Independence Day.
When Jaggi yodeled Sunday with the New Glarus Yodel Club, it's as if his high-pitched noise would reach Lake Mendota and cause waves to ripple.
