Negotiations between the heads of two of the world's top ten machine-tool companies could result in a merger of sorts that would dominate the metalcutting-machine business.
Talks between Gildemeister A.G. (Bielefeld, Germany) and ThyssenKrupp Technologies A.G. (Essen, Germany) are examining the possibility of pooling activities in the machine-tool area.
Both publicly held companies have several subsidiaries in Europe and North
America that produce and market metalcutting equipment. An early
examination of product lines indicates very little overlap or direct
competition that would impede a merger.
