Aug. 6--The fight over labor relations in California's $27 billion agriculture industry moved closer to Gov. Gray Davis' office Monday after the Assembly approved a bill that would allow third-party arbitrators to intervene in labor disputes between farmworkers and growers.
More than 100 farmworkers and United Farm Workers union representatives packed the gallery in the Assembly chambers during the lengthy debate and watched as SB 1736 passed on a 49-22 vote.
