FREDERICK PUKSTA, a designer at Saloom Furniture Company in Winchendon, MA, used an intuitive solid modeler to reduce development time by two months for the Dynasty Collection, a suite of dining furniture that won the 2000 Pinnacle Award in casual dining from the American Society of Furniture Designers. According to Puksta, he saved substantial time by working in solids, beginning with conceptual design and carrying through to production. He used Vellum Solids software from Ashlar Inc. of Austin, TX, to quickly model several early concepts, enabling others to visualize what he had in mind.
