COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. _ Mo Jo was the meanest mustang of the bunch.

He grew up running through the sagebrush of Wyoming with a herd that no human had ever touched.

So when the Bureau of Land Management rounded him up as part of its Wild Horse Adoption Program and brought him to its pens near Canon City, the young stallion reared wildly and kicked at everything in his reach.

That was two years ago, before Jackie Johnson adopted him for a little more than $100 _ before she trained him to herd cattle near her Black Forest home and go on trail rides in the mountains.
