Aug 11, 2002 (The Australian Financial Review
ABIX via COMTEX) -- Management of the Australian budget airline, Virgin Blue, has thrown down the gauntlet to rival Qantas Airways. Virgin Blue will offer holders of American Express (AMEX) and Westpac Altitude credit cards "e-ticket" credits as an alternative to redeeming their points for Qantas flights. The scheme is not a frequent flyer program, but an AMEX and Westpac frequent buyer program. Members will be able to trade points earned on purchases for $A50 e-ticket voucher on all Virgin Blue flights, at the rate of 6,000 points on AMEX or 5,500 on Westpac's Altitude.
