THE Clare bomb disposal unit went to work early at Croke Park yesterday and helped avert an explosion of potentially serious consequences.
No warning was given but the Banner sappers moved quickly to head off the carnage, sealed off all adjacent avenues, re-directed the traffic and then moved in to control the device with their trademark expertise.
By the break people could sit easy in their seats again as the smoke from a raging first half rose and drifted out over Dublin Bay.
