The Food and Drug Administration's recent approval of the "date-rape drug" GHB to treat a complication of narcolepsy worries officials on campuses across Central New York.
Counselors and campus security officials say they are concerned that legalizing the drug will send the wrong message about its safety to potential users.
"They think, "If it came from a pharmacy, it must be safe,"' said Jim Byrne, a counselor at Syracuse University's Options, a counseling service that educates students on the social, physical and mental effects of drugs and alcohol.
