LAS VEGAS--The proposed merger of EchoStar Communications Corp. and Hughes Electronics Corp. [GMH] could spur satellite TV dish dealers to begin selling and installing satellite radio equipment in large numbers, industry sources predicted.
That was a key topic of discussion at the annual Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Association (SBCA) conference here last week. The expected consolidation of the U.S. satellite TV industry through the EchoStar-Hughes merger could lead to SBCA welcoming the two U.S. satellite radio start-ups.
Satellite TV dish dealers are showing interest in exploiting the business opportunities offered by satellite radio.
