IN places it is two miles thick, shrouding the sunlight and bringing sickness and a catastrophic mixture of flooding and drought to southern and central Asia.
Now scientists are warning that a huge brown cloud of pollution hovering over India and China may threaten the climate and the health of the rest of the world.
They say tens of thousands of deaths can already be attributed to respiratory disease caused by the haze, while the toll from drought and flood is almost incalculable.
