ABIX via COMTEX) -- Ciba Group is developing a new additive to plastic that can reduce ultraviolet penetration of beverages in PET bottles by up to 90 per cent. The new product, described as Shelfplus UV 1100, will be soon commercially trialled. Yvonne Mah, technical marketing manager of Ciba Specialty Chemicals, located in Thomastown, Victoria, presented the product at a meeting in the Australian Institute of Packaging. According to Mah, Shelfplus UV 1100 provides protection of up to ten year as measured with Tinuvin 1577.
