Denver's Leprino Foods Co. is suing its risk insurer over a $13 million loss involving 8.2 million pounds of tainted mozzarella cheese.

Leprino alleges the insurance group FM Global is refusing to reimburse the privately held company after the cheese was pulled from distribution because of customer complaints about its odor and flavor.

Leprino says samples of the ``damaged cheese,'' produced last year in Leprino's Waverly, N.Y., plant and stored in a refrigerated warehouse in Pennsylvania, showed contamination of chemicals that are commonly found in cleaning solvents.
