Some in Virginia seem willing to give up on the native Chesapeake Bay oyster, Crassostrea virginica.
Jim Wesson, chief of oyster restoration for the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, argues that the reefs built by the state are crumbling and the native oysters stocked upon them are dying. He and the Virginia Seafood Council argue that the time has come to introduce a non-native Asian oyster into the Bay.
